love at first sight

1 Corinthians 13:1-13 – Love Verse

1 Corinthians 13:1-13 – Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Love at first sight…….. It’s impossible…… Well real love that is. Just weighing the statement against the scripture above kind of says it all. It implies that you need to know the person before you can love them.

I think you can be attracted to someone at first glimpse, or it can be “lust” at first sight. But Love at first sight, its a myth….

mmmh very short, very sweet… πŸ™‚ i have to bare witness that there have been reported cases of people that just looked into each others eyes and just knew… like they had known that person their whole lives. πŸ™‚ Some recondition in the spirit maybe… with God anything is possible no manual exists, no written steps to how its suppose to work. So… love at first sight in the world mmmmh, possibly lust, but love at first sight under the glory light of God, yes absolutely possible πŸ˜‰

It could work out into love, but genuine love, the kind(only kind the bible speaks of) is not possible in one glance.

What I am saying is that true real love is not possible. The possibility of love to develop nobody denies that.

Its just too flippant in one glance. Real love can only be what it states in 1 cor 1vs13. That means that you have to spend time and work through things to display those qualities.

Its just not love when you look at each other in one glance. Sure you can have a connection though.

Where does the phrase come from?

Retrospect is an amazing thing. Will people not say that it was love at first sight if things worked out for them? Somebody else (usually the romantics) hears this and thinks this is how it always happens and so the phrase of love at first sight lives on happily ever after.

Would it not be better to say, potential of love at first sight?

I do agree that you need to get to know that person to really truly love that person.

I agree. Take it from someone who has experienced this “love” at first sight myth. It is fairytale love. Stuff we see in movies and Shakespeare. Real life requires real love. And that love is not a feeling, its a choice. It is not something that happens to you or comes upon you in a moment. No, it is a active decision of your will. And that can only happen once you have weighed up the options, considered the alternatives, and really thought about it, which, as you have suggested, takes time. Because once you do decide, you are responsible for your actions and the way you then lead that love. This “love at first sight” nonsense encourages people to go for what they feel in a moment, and then when the feeling leaves, feel justified to leave as well. That is not love. Bless you brother mythbuster!

People who think love at first sight must be blind!

Love of someone you don’t know is impossible although the Bible does say “love thy neighbour” Being born of loving parents, that is love at first sight and relates to ones instinct.Surely this is where people have gotten confused.

I’m in agreement 100% that first you notice someone, then you want to get to know them better by spending time with them. From there once you know its not “fairytale” love, LOVE GROWS To me anything else is lust and just looks good on the eyes!

If love is a cognitive response, and not one that is emotive, as expected by God, then it is an immediate and continual expression of what is and could be possible. If God calls for such a love, then that kind of love is not only possible but real. Therefore, in my opinion love, yes, maybe this is brotherly love i’m referring to, but that should be to include romantic love, even “love at first sight” should be and is possible.
